
The Insular Board of Directors of the Popular Party meeting this Tuesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has proceeded to appoint the former mayor of the city of Puerto de la Cruz, Lope Afonso, as the new general coordinator of the popular party on the island.
The president of the PP in Tenerife, Emilio Navarro, praised the political trajectory of the Puerto Rican who transformed the city of which he was mayor, making it once again competitive in the tourist market.
The Insular Board of Directors revealed the consensus around the figure of the person appointed as the new general coordinator who will accompany Emilio Navarro in this new stage of the popular on the island of Tenerife after the departure of Manuel Domínguez to the presidency of the PP of the Canary Islands .
The president of the PP Tenerife pointed out that “we are a little over a year away from the local and regional elections, so it is necessary not only to start outlining strategies but, more importantly, to have the best”. In this transition period that will take us to the next insular congress, Lope Afonso will learn about the concerns of the different local committees of the PP in a period of listening to our public officials and militancy in the different municipalities to articulate the strategy for the next local elections.
Lope Afonso joined Nuevas Generaciones in 1998. In 2003, he was appointed adviser to the Department of Tourism of the Municipal Corporation of Porto. In 2005 he was appointed Deputy to the Cabinet of the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands. From 2011 to 2015 he was third deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Development and Commerce of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council. In 2015, Lope Afonso became mayor obtaining the best result in the history of the PP in his city.
