SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 4. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Socialist Parliamentary Group takes to the plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands this coming Tuesday and Wednesday a proposal to penalize harassment of women who go to clinics for the voluntary interruption of pregnancy, with the aim of guaranteeing a safe and legal practice of abortion based on on women’s health and rights.
Specifically, the socialist Proposition No Law (PNL) on abortion requests the Parliament of the Canary Islands its support for the processing of the Organic Law Proposal amending Organic Law 10/1995, of November 23, of the Code Penal, to penalize the harassment of women who go to clinics for the voluntary interruption of pregnancy.
In addition, it calls for the promotion of programs for sexual education and prevention of unwanted pregnancies in the field of regional powers.
The initiative coincides with the celebration this coming Tuesday of ‘International Women’s Day’ and is presented as a necessary measure to guarantee “a safe and legal practice of abortion based on the health and rights of women, who today suffer offensive, intimidating or coercive nuisance acts intended to influence a woman’s decision to terminate her pregnancy”.
