Tenerife suspends its entire promotional campaign in Russia as a reaction to invasion of Ukraine by the regime of Vladimir Putin. The Island cancels the contract with its tourist promotion office in Moscow, in addition to closing all planned actions, including participation in the MITT specialized fair, which will be held from March 15 to 17 in the Russian capital.
Turismo de Tenerife processes the termination of the contract with the office in charge of the island’s tourist representation and intermediation in the Russian market. The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, adds that since last week the procedures began to cancel all the promotion in the country.
Martin explains that “We are going to terminate the contract in a country that attacks another neighbor and destabilizes Europe.” The island institution has already communicated this decision to the Tenerife tourism sector. In addition to the war situation and the actions of condemnation in the international sphere, “the president explains, the material inability to carry out any promotional activity in the area is added.” We must add the aggravating circumstance of the closure of airspace and the impossibility, in addition, of carrying out economic transactions in Russia.
On the other hand, the council has contacted a group of Ukrainian people living in Tenerife to gather information and learn about the situation of those who may be temporarily residing on the island, in order to find out their needs. “We are waiting for the indications of the Government of Spain and at its disposal to collaborate in whatever it requires”, concludes the president.
