The National Police detonates the suitcase that a passenger forgot in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Members of the explosives deactivation group (Tedax) of the National Police detonated a suitcase on Wednesday that a passenger had left behind in the maritime station of the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, sources from the provincial police station reported on Thursday.

The passenger in question took a ferry to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and upon arrival at his destination he noticed that a suitcase had been left behind “due to mistake or haste”.

The individual who gave the alert to the Police reported that the owner of the suitcase “spoke in Arabic” with another person and that both entered the ferry leaving the suitcase abandoned.

The National Police activated the usual protocol before the discovery of suspicious objects and proceeded to detonate the suitcase. The sources consulted indicate that it is not usual to act with this forcefulness, and that “it depends on many circumstances.”
