The Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife insists on continuing to extend the ERTE

The president of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Chamber of Commerce, Santiago Sesé, assessed the unemployment data published this Wednesday and stated that they are possible “thanks to the recovery that the economy has been experiencing in recent months and to measures such as ERTE, which have made it possible to safeguard jobs at the worst moment of the pandemic and which have even made it possible for the labor market to recover faster than the economy itself.

The number of unemployed in the Canary Islands falls by 2,022 people in February and places the unemployed at 205,134

However, Santiago Sesé has insisted on the need to continue extending them “for as long as it takes”, since “the recovery has not been completed, but rather, predictably, the business fabric will face difficult months due to the rise in prices”. For this reason, he considers it a priority that as many facilities as possible be given to the entire business fabric of the Islands.

The chamber president has also highlighted the difficulty that, for months, the business community has been having when it comes to finding profiles with the necessary qualifications, as was revealed in the factors limiting the development of companies, analyzed in the survey January of the Business Confidence Indicator.

For the president of the provincial Chamber of Commerce, “this situation of lack of consistency between labor supply and demand means that both companies and workers must make a significant commitment to training, which will undoubtedly be a catalyst to improve our competitiveness, something that we are already doing from the Chamber through our commitment to Dual Vocational Training”.
