SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 2. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Agents of the National Police have arrested a 60-year-old man for burning an acquaintance by spraying him with a flammable liquid after also setting fire to his vehicle. The detainee has entered prison as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of attempted murder.
The events occurred on February 19, when several friends were meeting in the Tejina neighborhood and one of their vehicles caught fire. One of them, a 59-year-old man, noticed and went outside. Next to the car he surprised an acquaintance of his, who was spraying it with a flammable liquid and had set it on fire.
Upon being recriminated, this person allegedly also sprayed him with that liquid and set the victim on fire, causing such serious burns on his body that they required him to be transferred immediately to the health center and, from there, urgently to the hospital.
The national police, once notified of the serious event, quickly moved both to the health center and to the place where the events had occurred. They collected the first statements from the witnesses, including the identity of the alleged perpetrator, seized the bottle containing the liquid and protected the crime scene.
Moments later, the National Police arrested the alleged perpetrator of the act in the vicinity of the place of the fire, after being identified. The subsequent investigation revealed that this person claimed to have had a traffic incident with the victim and this, it seems, would have motivated the fatal outcome.
The detainee, together with the report prepared for this purpose, was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which determined his admission to prison. The actions were carried out by national police officers from the La Laguna National Police Station.
