The shear of the wind is one of the most dangerous weather phenomena for aviation and this situation has caused several aircraft that were supposed to land in the Tenerife South airport were forced to frustrate their landing operation, according to air traffic controllers on their Twitter account.
This phenomenon has occurred in the middle of the rush hour of the operation of this aerodrome in Tenerife, as can be seen in the image captured from the radar.
What exactly is shear?
It consists of a sudden change in wind direction or speed and it can take place at any level of the atmosphere. when it happens close to the groundwhere the plane is not carrying as much speed, it can be a problem to maintain control of the plane during the phases of take off and landing.
The causes of this phenomenon are varied; above all, the local conditions of each airport influence, especially the orography, that diverts the flow or wind. In the Canary Islands, the airports are affected more or less frequently due to the important relief of the archipelago.
