SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, Feb. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Puertos Canarios and the Cabildo de La Gomera have promoted the conservation and maintenance works of the riverside quay of the Port of Playa de Santiago with the signing of the reconsideration act with which the actions begin.

According to the Island Corporation, it is an action that has an investment of close to 500,000 euros and that will facilitate the implementation of improvements in different locations of the current port.

The set of actions focuses on the provision of water connections in various areas of the dry dock; the buoyage of the breakwater, including the repair of the support and placement of the maritime signal. In addition, the slabs of the docking ramp will be replaced, based on the demands raised by the fishermen in the area.

Within the conservation plan, the repair of the first alignment of the riverbank dock and the breakwater will be carried out, through the tasks of underpinning the port infrastructure block with concrete, as well as the provision of breakwater for protection.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the port, repair works will be carried out to correct foundation failures that reduce the stability of the port, at the same time that it contemplates the execution of a metal staircase in front of the fish market.

The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, pointed out that the execution of these works “allows us to address the renovation of the Port of Playa de Santiago and increase the possibilities of use in fishing matters, since it is to this sector that these improvements bring the most benefits” , he stated, before recalling the usefulness of this infrastructure as an “economic revitalization axis”, in relation to its future expansion to combine fishing with sports and commercial use.

On this matter, he announced that it will be during the month of March when the final project is available.

Meanwhile, from Puertos Canarios, its director, Manuel Ortega, specified that the work will last eight months and will be the last “great work” before the start of the expansion.

“It is a living port and regardless of the fact that this great expansion work begins this year and the next, this space will remain as an interior dock, and it needs to be maintained and improved,” he said.
