The works to improve car parks and pedestrian access to the bathing area of La Caleta del Andén, in the municipality of Garachico, will be completed next June, as announced yesterday by the Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government and the Council of Tenerifewhich are the two administrations involved in this work budgeted at 258,000 euros.
The works, which have been underway since October 2021, include the reorganization of the car park and the improvement of the ramp and stairs through which the sea is reached in that area, as well as landscaped areas, small wooden platforms and an esplanade that will form a lookout square. Storm water drainage will also be improved.
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Peter Martin, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Teresa Berástegui, visited the works this Thursday, accompanied by the Mayor of Garachico, José Heriberto González; the general director of Tourist Infrastructure, Fernando Miñarro; the Island Director of Tourism, Laura Castro, and the Councilor for Urban Planning and Tourism, Jesús Rafael González.
Pedro Martin assured that These works “allow us to recover a corner that has a special charm and that with the renovation of the accesses it recovers a new value». In his opinion, “this action is part of a global strategy to improve the island’s coastline for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors.”
For Berástegui, “this type of action is intended to promote all those infrastructures that generate added value to the destination. These are interventions that will allow us to have more accessible places and modern infrastructures that are in line with today’s reality”. Miñarro has also remarked that “we are improving accessibility to La Caleta del Andén so that we can all enjoy outdoor spaces by the sea, with more modern and adapted infrastructures”.
The mayor of Garachico thanked the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo for the effort made to promote the works with which an area that was in very poor condition and that before the execution of the project lacked tourist interest is revitalized.
