The Canary Islands are looking for blood donors during Carnival week

The Canary Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH), dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Governmentreminds the adult population of the importance of donating blood regularly, every 3 or 4 months, to maintain the reserves of the Canary Transfusion Center.

On Canary Islands 300 daily donations are needed both for the attention of the scheduled health activity and for hospital emergencies. Men can donate a maximum of 4 times a year and women 3 timeswith a minimum interval of 60 days between donations.

To facilitate the donation of blood to the whole population, during the next week, during and after the ‘bridge’ of Carnival, the ICHH will set up temporary extraction rooms in Gran Canariain the municipalities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Ingenio, Vega de San Mateo, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Telde; on Tenerife there will be operational donation points in Tacoronte, La Orotava and Arona; and in Lanzarote A device will be launched in the municipality of Teguise, in addition to the existing fixed points throughout the Archipelago.

Requirements

To donate blood you can go directly or request an appointment by calling 012 or 922 470 012 / 928 301 012 (option 8), Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or by filling in the form published on the cover of the web effectdonation.com. Before going to donate, it is advisable to review the information published on this website in the Information and Protocol tabs, to familiarize yourself with the established security measures and answer the self-assessment test to check if you can donate blood.

The ICHH also reminds that people vaccinated against COVID-19, with both one and two doses and the booster dose, can donate blood after 48 hours of inoculation.

Where to donate blood in Gran Canaria

In the capital of Gran Canaria, the donation room set up in the Las Arenas Shopping Center, next to store B2 (on the side of the center’s Information post). This point will be operational from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., except Tuesday, which will remain closed due to being a holiday. In addition, tomorrow, Saturday, February 26, this point will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

On Ingenuity, the blood donation team will move next week to the headquarters of the Las Mahoreras Folk Group, located in the square above the Parque de la Aviación, in Carrizal. The schedule will be Monday from 9:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Wednesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. On Friday it will close half an hour earlier.

On the other hand, in the Vega de Saint Matthew The donation point set up in a place in the Plaza de la Solidaridad (Plaza Nueva), in front of the Spar supermarket, continues to operate. Extractions will be made on Monday and Wednesday from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday will be closed for being a holiday.

The withdrawal room set up at the Alcampo Shopping Center in Telde (next to the State Lottery and Gambling administration) will be operational on Friday, March 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. :45 hours. It will be open at this same time tomorrow, Saturday, February 26.

Finally, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, the extraction room set up in the premises in front of Parque de la Libertad below the Justice of the Peace in Parque Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente will be operational on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. :30 p.m. and Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

As for the fixed blood collection points, the ICHH makes its headquarters available to the population at calle Alfonso XIII, number 4, in the capital of Gran Canaria, from Monday to Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. :45 to 9:15 p.m. This point will open exceptionally tomorrow, Saturday, February 26, from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. It has a ford reserved for donors.

You can also go to other fixed points of the Canarian Transfusion Network as the Maternal-Child University Hospital of the Canary Islands Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canariawhere you can donate from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., except holidays (they have a parking space for donors in all cases).

Next week Tegueste hosts a new temporary donation point in the Pacheco Prebendary House located in the central Plaza San Marcos, number 20. The hours will be on Monday from 9:00 to 13:45 and from 16:00 to 20:45 and from Wednesday to Friday from 9:00 to 13:45 and from 16: 00 to 20:45 hours. The last day of the campaign will close at 8:15 p.m. and on Tuesday it will remain closed due to being a holiday.

In the south of the island, the temporary extraction point is still available in the municipality of Arona, specifically in the Las Galletas Senior Center, on Consuelo Alfonso Díaz Flores street, number 16A, which will be operational from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. On Friday the 4th it will close half an hour earlier due to the end of the campaign and on Tuesday it will remain closed.

Finally, during the next week the fixed point of the El Trompo Shopping Mall (Sector 10, Las Arenas, exit 36 ​​of the TF-5), will be operational on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tomorrow, Saturday, February 26, this extraction room will be open from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

And as far as the fixed points of the Canarian Transfusion Network are concerned, at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias you can donate without an appointment from Sunday to Friday and holidays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. 2:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. As for the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, you can donate without an appointment from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except holidays. It has a ford reserved for donors.

Where to donate blood in Lanzarote

Next week the ICHH will visit the municipality of Teguise, where it will set up a new temporary donation point in the Hotel Sands Beach Resort in Costa Teguise. The schedule will be Monday from 9:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 3:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday will remain closed for being a holiday.

In addition, the fixed point of donation of the Canarian Transfusion Network at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (except holidays). The University Hospital of La Palma It has a fixed collection point where you can donate from Monday to Sunday, including holidays, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., by appointment by calling 922 185 312 or 922 185 320.
