SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 25 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, has shown himself this Friday in favor of promoting the development of the Tenerife and Gran Canaria trains and therefore starting the search for funds given that they are projects that are “mature” and can be put out to tender “in less time than some believe”.
“It should not be given up”, he pointed out in an interview granted to ‘Cope Canarias’ given that the train is a “bet” of the European Union (EU) and is the means of transport that “best fights” against climate change, it does not consume more territory and meets the criteria of speed and commercial profitability.
Franquis has pointed out that he has “always” been a supporter of these projects and in fact, he recalled that a year ago he met with the two councils to try to promote them because there are community funds available to start both initiatives.
“These alternatives should not be given up in the medium term and in Tenerife no more territory can be consumed,” he commented, stressing that “it would be good” for the whole of society to commit to the project, as is the case in Gran Canaria, given that ” is a very important investment” that must have the support of all administrations.
