SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE/MADRID, Feb. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The mortgage firm on homes increased by 3.8% in the Canary Islands in 2021 to add a total of 12,561 properties, with a borrowed capital of 1.4 million, 13.2% more than in the previous year, according to the data released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In Spain, the number of mortgages constituted on homes soared 23.6% in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching 417,501, its highest figure since 2010, when home loans reached 607,535.

With this rebound in 2021, the home mortgage firm returns to the rise after the 6.5% drop it registered in 2020, a year marked by the start of the pandemic.

The average amount of mortgages constituted on homes rose by 2.4% in 2021, to 137,921 euros, while the borrowed capital soared by 26.5% in the whole of last year, to 57,582 million euros.

By autonomous communities, those that registered the highest number of mortgages constituted on homes in 2021 were Andalusia (83,636), Madrid (73,383) and Catalonia (69,805).

In all regions, more mortgages on homes were signed in 2021 than in 2020 except in the Balearic Islands, where they were reduced by 4%.

The greatest increases corresponded to Cantabria (+47.3%), Murcia (+37.9%), Castilla-La Mancha (+33.8%) and Andalucía (+31.3%), while the least pronounced were they occurred in the Canary Islands (+3.8%), the Basque Country (+7%) and Asturias (+8.3%).

In the month of December alone, 32,905 home mortgages were subscribed, a figure 23.3% higher than that of the same month in 2020. The borrowed capital exceeded 4,786 million euros, 31.8% more than in December of the previous year , while the average amount increased by 6.9%, to 145,465 euros.

In monthly values ​​(December 2021 over November of the same year), mortgages on homes fell by 9.2%, their biggest drop since 2018, while borrowed capital fell by 4.4%, its smallest drop since the financial year 2018.
