SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 24 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The central government spokeswoman, Isabel Rodríguez, has guaranteed this Thursday that the commitment to hold the Conference of Presidents in La Palma, suspended as a result of the war in Ukraine, is maintained.
“We will do it for sure”, he commented in an interview granted to ‘Radio Club Tenerife’ and collected by Europa Press in which he lamented the suspension of the entire agenda on the island, including the tribute to the palm society with the Kings who had organized with “great affection” to make visible the “exemplarity” of the town in the face of the eruption.
He has also said that all the autonomous communities have shown “shows of solidarity” towards the island and that the presidents “wanted to share” the response of the Spanish people with palm society.
Rodríguez pointed out that now it is time to work on “coordinated action” with the EU and NATO because the continent is experiencing a “very complicated situation” that is unprecedented since World War II.
For this reason, he has indicated that President Pedro Sánchez is in permanent “contact” with European and NATO partners and King Felipe VI chairs the National Security Council this Thursday.
He has said that “the most dramatic” is the life of the people in Ukraine who are being attacked and who have the “solidarity” of the Government and hopes that the strong economic sanctions that are going to be imposed on Russia will serve to “retrain and withdrawal of the troops” and the diplomatic channel is recovered.
“We hope that it will be a deterrent,” he indicated, emphasizing, however, that we still have to be “very cautious” with the conflict.
Rodríguez has once again reiterated the collaboration of all the institutions in La Palma to respond to the volcanic emergency –without human loss– and to the reconstruction and has recalled, for example, the latest support measures such as the extension of the ERTE in the island until June 30, with more than 1,500 people benefiting, the support for the cessation of activity of the self-employed, the extension of the moratorium for the payment of interest on mortgages or the open work to design an urban plan that allows undertaking the rehabilitation.
“We are going to continue to respond as we had promised,” he pointed out.
