From the ‘Centenariazo’ to the darkness. After the historic takeover of Heliodoro -January 2 by (0-1) with Kirian Rodríguez’s goal-, UD Las Palmas took refuge in melancholy: one victory, two draws, three defeats, six goals scored and eight in against. In the loot, from that stretch of six days -from the 23rd to the 28th league date-, the yellow team tied against Almería (1-1), succumbed to Fuenlabrada at the Fernando Torres (3-2) and was fired Mel.
Already in the cycle of Xavi García Pimienta, UD drew against Real Sociedad B (0-0) and got rid of Cartagena with one of the best performances of the season (0-2). Against Burgos (0-2) and Zaragoza (2-1), a double setback and a torpedo to the waterline of Pío XII’s submarine.
In the classification of these last six days, UD is in 14th place with eight points in the last 51 days. But Tenerife is overwhelming with four wins and two draws -eleven goals for, two against-. Since that January 2, those of Ramis have put the direct towards the long-awaited promotion.
They drew against Amorebieta at the Lezama facilities (1-1) and then thrashed Oviedo (4-0). They completed this successful sequence by conquering El Toralín (1-2), against a direct rival, and tied against Leganés (0-0) in a dismal performance. Rigor by flag in Santo Domingo (0-2) against a sunken Alcorcón and ‘express’ victory against Paco Jémez’s Ibiza (2-0, with two goals from Mario González in 18′).
Fourteen units of 18 in litigation. The third best team in the last six Second Division games, only surpassed by SD Eibar (17) and Roque Mesa’s Valladolid (15). The comparison is devastating. The ‘Tete’, after receiving the stab of the Centenariazo de Kirian, has achieved five goals more than the yellows. In the defensive aspect, it fits six less. But the impact on the table is brutal. A true candidate is born. reliable. After losing to UD, Tenerife was fourth with 38 units and four from second.
Now, the chicharrera formation is third and follows three points from direct promotion. But the difference with the seventh, is nine units -marked by Real Oviedo-. In the absence of fourteen days, the people of Tenerife already have three income games. But it is that they have the leader Eibar only four points away. The rent with Las Palmas rises to thirteen points. At the end of the Centenariazo, those from Ramis only outscored the Gran Canaria by four.
In relation to UD, that historic victory, which ended a 21-year drought without taking the Heliodoro, staged a magical start to 2022. On January 3, Las Palmas caressed sixth place -it equaled Girona with 34 points- and was eight behind Eibar -which marked direct promotion-. Six days later, the second place is 16 points away and the sixth, the last of the promotion, only three. But there are already five teams in the fight for the last ticket. The classic that altered trends.
