SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 22 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Interurban Transport Administration Council of Tenerife (Titsa) has approved the purchase of a total of 120 hybrid buses, of which 101 will be financed by the Cabildo and the rest will have a contribution from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, and which will be available and in service this year.
“Of the 101 buses purchased by Cabildo 96 are hybrid and 5 are diesel. This means that 96% of the new Titsa fleet will have hybrid technology, which means a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, as well as considerable savings in fossil fuel consumption, said the First Vice President and Minister of Mobility, Enrique Arriaga.
“With this acquisition Titsa substantially renews the current fleet of buses; 101 of the vehicles will be used for intercity service and the rest for urban service provided by the company in Santa Cruz,” the councilor added.
The island director of Mobility, José Alberto León, indicated that this type of purchase “demonstrates the serious commitment to sustainability and the fight for the environment with which the Cabildo of Tenerife works”. “These are vehicles without stock in the wholesale market, so the Tenerife transport company will have to wait for delivery, but it will be worth it,” he added.
HYBRID TECHNOLOGY
An electric hybrid bus uses two different types of energy to achieve its displacement: on the one hand, an internal combustion engine (generally diesel); on the other, one (or more) electric motors. With these two technologies you can run the thermal motor, the electric motor or both together.
In this way, the hybrid system can easily reduce fuel consumption -a decrease of 30% is estimated on average- and, with it, minimize polluting emissions from the exhaust -mainly diesel- such as nitrogen oxides NOx and nanoparticles.
The new vehicles comply with all accessibility features and incorporate the facilities that are being implemented in response to user needs, such as USB ports for recharging mobile devices or TFT technology screens.
Titsa takes a step forward, leading, within its environmental commitment, the purchase and use of sustainable intercity buses, vehicles that the wholesale market does not have until now and for which the Tenerife transport company will have to wait for delivery.
