The president of State Ports, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena, met the works being carried out in the Port of Granadilla Bearing in mind that port infrastructure “plays an important role in the development of [energía] offshore wind power in the Canary Islands”. Yesterday he paid a visit to the Granadilla quay within the framework of the institutional visit he made to the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The progress of the works of the Port of Granadilla, “which will contribute to the objective of positioning this port as an energy hub and activities linked to the blue economy”, was one of the topics addressed during the meeting by a meeting with the management team of Ports of Tenerife, led by its president, Carlos González, a meeting in which the deputy director of Human Resources of the State entity, Jesús Requena Ojeda, was also present.
The presence of Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena yesterday in Tenerife is part of the round of contacts that he has been maintaining with the managers of the ports of general interest of the State Port System after his appointment, last November 2021.
In the meeting with Puertos de Tenerife also analyzed aspects related to the exploitation and commercial management of this port system made up of six island ports, in which the administration of knowledge and renewable energies are being added to the priority aspects of management. In this regard, there was agreement on the need to find the best way to incorporate practices linked to the blue economy and how to develop initiatives of sustainable ports. All this, in accordance with the new strategic framework that will be approved shortly.

Commercially modeling the management of the demand for port services and the presentation of the procedures in which the Delimitation of Port Spaces and Uses (DEUP) of the ports of La Palma and Granadilla are found were other aspects exposed by Puertos de Tenerife to the owner of State Ports.
During his stay on the island, Rodríguez Dapena visited the Tenerife Free Zone, accompanied by his vice-president, Margarita Pena, and the sub-delegate of the Government, Javier Plata. The progress of the development works on the Valleseco coastline, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, was part of the visit to the Port Authority facilities, which concluded at the Tenerife Cruise Terminal, where Álvaro Rodríguez and Carlos González met with a large delegation from the Tenerife port community.
It should be remembered that An island company launched the process to install the first offshore wind farm in the province. The Port Authority opened the procedure after receiving the administrative concession request for the occupation of 619,750 square meters in the sea off the coast of Granadilla and Arico, under the jurisdiction of the entity, as well as 5,300 square meters of seabed and 1,375 of subsoil. . The request comes from the company Parque Eólico Marino Granadilla SL and, if it goes ahead, it would mean a great advance in the penetration of renewable energies on the Island. It is the first large offshore wind farm project to be presented in the province. The wind turbines would be installed, as reflected in the project, in two marine strips in front of Las Maretas and San Miguel de Tajao, two towns in the municipality of Arico.
