Dácil García Marcelino will no longer be part of the municipal group of the Canarian Coalition in Arona. As this newspaper learned, the nationalist councilor presented her resignation to the minutes on January 28 at the City Hall entry register, a decision that will be officially communicated in the plenary session convened for next Thursday, at 7:00 p.m., in the Auditorium Infanta Leonor de Los Cristianos, as stated on the agenda of the session in its fifth point.

Dácil García, who ran as number two on the CC electoral list in 2019, occupied one of the four seats that his party obtained in the plenary hall. His resignation is the second that has occurred in the nationalist group since the last term began after the departure of Antonio García Marichal, current local secretary general of the Canarian Coalition, who led the list in the last elections and who resigned his act of councilor just after the elections.

A little over a year before the next appointment with the polls, the Canarian Coalition no longer has the two people who headed the list in 2019 in the Aronero Consistory, a reality that contrasts with the best times of a political formation that governed with a majority absolute until 2015 in the municipality with the largest population in the South.

local government

The plenary session next Thursday will also give an account of the latest changes in the government group (PSOE), advanced last Friday by this newspaper: Leopoldo Díaz Oda assumes the area of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning (until now in the hands of the mayor, José Julián Mena, after the dismissal of Luis García in June 2020); Ruth Alexandra Lorenzo will manage Works, Contracting, Transparency, Modernization and Citizen Participation, as well as Public Services, and Julia Raquel Morales will lead the Housing area.

The new organization chart is completed with the provisional assignment of the Culture area to José Alberto Delgado (currently responsible for Tourism and Historical Heritage) -while the maternity leave of the mayor Yurena García lasts, municipal sources assure- and the creation of a tenure of mayor for Ruth Alexandra Lorenzo.

Precisely, the Canarian Coalition will ask in the plenary session on Thursday the reasons that have led the mayor to carry out this new distribution of areas and, above all, in Urban Planning.
