SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 19 (EUROPE PRESS) –
Two boats in which more than a hundred migrants were traveling have been rescued this Saturday when they were sailing towards the Canary Archipelago, sources from Maritime Rescue and the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2 have informed Europa Press.
Around 02.00 hours, the Maritime Rescue Control Center in Las Palmas received a notice from 1-1-2 reporting a small boat sailing about 11 miles from Órzola, north of Lanzarote, so helimer 201 was mobilized already the salvamar ‘Al Nair’.
Around 0350 hours, the Maritime Rescue helicopter spotted some lights and confirmed that it was the boat. Already with the updated position, the salvamar ‘Al Nair’ spotted the boat around 04:30 hours and proceeded to rescue the 46 people who were on board, including four women and three children, all of North African origin.
At 6:45 a.m., their disembarkation at the La Cebolla dock in Arrecife was completed, where they were assisted by health personnel from the SUC and the Red Cross. All were in good general condition, as reported by Cecoes 1-1-2.
Around 0700 hours, the Maritime Rescue Control Center in Tenerife received a notice from the Civil Guard reporting the echo of a possible small boat about 7 miles from Punta Rasca, south of Tenerife.
From the Control Center, the salvamar ‘Alpheratz’ was mobilized, which at around 07:50 hours saw and confirmed that it was a canoe, proceeding to the rescue of the 58 people (48 men and 10 women) who were on board, all of them Sub-Saharan origin.
Forty minutes later, the salvamar proceeded to disembark at the port of Los Cristianos, where they were treated by health personnel from the SUC and the Red Cross. One of them has been transferred to a hospital with moderate burns.
