The Councilor for Citizen Security of La Laguna, Alejandro Marrero, announced that the work to set up the new loading and unloading areas in the surroundings of the historic center will begin next week, with the forecast that “if there are no incidents, because we depend that it doesn’t rain, in principle they could be in about ten days more or less”.
The objective with the creation of these new areas, which will be added to the existing ones, is to prevent vehicles of more than 3.5 tons from circulating on pedestrian paths, and thus comply with the hull protection plan of 2005 , in which said prohibition is collected but that “has never been fulfilled”, explained the mayor. Something that is going to begin to be applied now, and that will entail a sanction in case of non-compliance, for which these new loading and unloading areas are going to be enabled, at strategic points, to facilitate the work of merchants.
“What we are not going to do is make a sudden change to affect trade, but look for an alternative that allows them to carry out their activity with full guarantees and also that the plan can be fulfilled. We have done a technical job that we have agreed with the representatives of commerce and neighbors, and in the last stretch with the opposition, “said Marrero.
In addition, with this prohibition it will also be possible to “preserve heritage” and “coexistence with passers-by” will be improved, he said.
These new loading and unloading areas will be set up on Calle Candilas and Calle Anchieta, in the surroundings of San Agustín and La Concepción, from 08:00 to 16:00 on both roads; as well as in the surroundings of the Plaza del Adelantado, specifically, in the space of the old Market, from 08:00 to 20:00. “These new squares have a limited schedule that allows neighbors to use them at night,” said the mayor. It is also established that vehicles must stop only on the right side of the road and that they must turn off the engine.
Meanwhile, vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tons will be able to continue accessing the pedestrian lanes from 09:00 to 11:00.
“The enabled points have carried out a study by the municipal technicians so that the route that the vehicles have to make” adapts to their dimensions, “and also close to the largest commercial areas,” explained Marrero.
