The Cabildo de Tenerife, in collaboration with the Beekeepers Association of Tenerife (Apiten), held this Saturday at the Casa de la Miel a training session on the quality and safety of beekeeping production.
The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, who opened the conference, stressed the importance of continuing to promote and protect the beekeeping herd on the island, and to intensify training to promote generational change.
In the VI Technical Conference of the Association of Veterinary Specialists in Beekeeping (Avespa) issues such as the marketing of honey or the importance of sensory analysis in the characterization of honey were also addressed.
In the clinical field, the professor at the University of Guelph (Canada) Ernesto Guzmán gave a presentation on bee populations resistant to varroosis, a worldwide disease caused by the varroa mite, which affects both young and the adult bees.
