SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 19 (EUROPE PRESS) –
Juan José Neris (PSOE) has been elected the new mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, after the vote in plenary session held this Saturday at City Hall. Neris succeeds Juan José Cabrera (PP), thus complying with the agreement signed on September 30, 2020 between both political groups for the joint governance of the palm capital.
The City Council facilitated the retransmission of the act outside the Town Hall through the installation of two television screens, as well as through the official social networks of the Corporation, due to the fact that preventive measures against COVID-19 limit , currently, the capacity of the Plenary Hall.
The new mayor thanked the joint and coordinated work that has been carried out through the government agreement and encouraged all the councilors who make up the municipal arch to continue along the same line of collaboration and volunteerism in order to join efforts for development socioeconomic of the city.
During his investiture, Neris had words for his family and the rest of the socialist municipal group for the support received and stressed the values of the municipality, cooperation and dialogue as fundamental pillars for this new stage of government, in which the neighbors are the main protagonists in the advancement of Santa Cruz de La Palma as the capital of the island.
The mayor highlighted that 2022 is a year of vital importance for the city, for which there are outstanding projects to improve the municipality, services and infrastructure, as well as job opportunities and life projects for young people.
In this sense, he pointed out that Santa Cruz de La Palma “must be green, inclusive, modern, a municipality that offers opportunities and with work from each area, with the participation of society and laying the foundations for an optimistic future.”
In addition, in this line, he opted to reinforce lines of action aimed at protecting people with fewer resources, valuing the benefits and riches as the capital of La Palma and advancing projects historically stuck in the municipality.
