United We Can demands the dismissal of the refugee councilor from Santa Cruz de Tenerife after linking the fights with the migrant minors

The spokesman for United We Can in the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ramón Trujillo, has demanded that the mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez (Canarian Coalition), dismiss the refugee councilor Evelyn Alonso after having linked to migrant minors with fights that have taken place in the surroundings of the Plaza de España of the aforementioned municipality.

“We must take into account that there are several hotels designed to accommodate migrant minors, who have free movement around the city,” Alonso said in an interview with COPE Tenerife this week about the massive brawls that have taken place in recent days in the city. In addition, he asked the Ministry of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands to monitor the minors to know “where they move”. “Saying this is not crazy,” she said on the radio.

In this sense, Ramón Trujillo has pointed out that the attitude of the refugee councilor is “miserable” by stigmatizing a group of unaccompanied minors, falsely linking them to acts of violence. “It is not acceptable, in a democratic society, that the person in charge of Security of the municipality stigmatizes those minors who have risked their lives embarking on small boats in order to aspire to live in decent conditions,” said the mayor of United We Can.

Trujillo has affirmed that “in any civilized society, if someone singles out and stigmatizes minors, distinguishable by the color of their skin, it is understood that an act of racism is taking place. And racism and xenophobia should have no place in any municipal government of Santa Cruz”.

His party has also recalled that the Local Police assured that the migrant minors sheltered in the capital of Tenerife have a “peaceful” behavior and have not carried out violent acts.

For this reason, United We Can has demanded that the mayor “not put himself in profile” and “immediately” dismiss the turncoat councilor Evelyn Alonso.
