The unions with representation in the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, among which are ASIPAL, CSIF and CC.OO., affirm that they feel “overwhelmed” due to the lack of human resources to control the acts of vandalism that are taking place on weekends in areas such as the Plaza de Españastarring mainly minors.

The CSIF delegate in the Santa Cruz City Council, Jesús Illada, denounced at the microphones of the cope chain that the municipal body only has 20 agents to cover the city this weekend and, therefore, there is a risk that the rest of the areas of the capital will not be able to count on these troops if altercations occur again in the Plaza de Spain.

The Councilor for Security, Evelyn Alonso, advanced that the police presence will be greater, in collaboration with the National Police, to deal with future incidents on the street, but Illada is not entirely clear. “What happens, that the local police do not go to the downtown area of Santa Cruz? So do I turn around and walk away? Shall I call the National Police? This is nonsense. Whoever says that does not know the reality of the Local Police, ”she asserted. And the CCOO delegate, Moisés Sánchez, agrees with him. “We have to intervene yes or yes, so in the face of a criminal act we cannot turn around.”
