Carnival 2022 starts on March 2 at Lago Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz

From March 2 to 6, Puerto de la Cruz and its Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex will once again put on their glitter by celebrating a sample of their International Carnival. In this way, the commitment is fulfilled not only with the Porto Carnival groups, but also with the Dusseldorf Carnival, with which the city celebrates 50 years of twinning with a beneficial result in terms of tourist promotion throughout Germany, the main tourist market.

The mayor, Marco González, yesterday presented the program of events, accompanied by the Councilor for Fiestas, Alberto Castilla; the comparsas Moana, Carabao Guayana, Son Bahía and Grupo Wild Dance, and the author of this year’s poster, the Puerto Rican illustrator Jonás Emanuel, who explained the symbolism of Wannabe, the fantasy chosen with the participation of citizens, based on the mythical Spice Girls.

The festive program starts on Wednesday, March 2 with the proclamation and the presentation of the seven adult candidates and the four children. The galas to elect the queen and the king, as well as the children’s throne, will take place in the summer carnivals whose date is extended, between August 25 and September 11, with the expectation that in those months the situation health by COVID-19 is normalized.

One of the most important novelties of this edition is the return of the Mascarita Ponte Tacón, the craziest and funniest obstacle course, which will take place on March 4 in the same space, in a “reduced version, but more spectacular, where both the stage as well as the staging will delight the thousands of fans”, underlined Alberto Castilla. Meanwhile, the apotheosis event will also take place at the facilities on Sunday, March 6.

Castilla broke down the shows, such as the Nights of Carnival, which is prepared with the collaboration of all the groups and whose direction will be the artist and creative from Porto Wycho Torres.

Tickets for the different performances will be on sale in the coming days through the website www.carnavalpuertodelacruz.es and their capacity will depend on the health situation prescribed by the Government of the Canary Islands. However, the acts can be followed on the social networks of the City Council in a special virtual program, in which the Ay que Vacilón program stands out, which will introduce the public backstage to all the performances.
