The Bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Alvarezhas come to testify first thing this Wednesday morning, summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the demonstrations in which he pointed out that Homosexuality is a “mortal sin”.
Álvarez has arrived at the Palace of Justice of Santa Cruz de Tenerife a few minutes after 9:40 a.m., alone and has refused to comment before the ten journalists and graphics that were waiting for him. His summons is marked at 10:00.
As will be recalled, the Prosecutor’s Office has opened informative proceedings to determine whether the words of the Nivarian prelate in an interview on the program ‘Good afternoon Canarias’, on ‘Televisión Canaria’, were constitutive of a hate crime. Within the framework of these procedures, Álvarez is summoned to appear and explain himself.
From the bishop’s statements in court and from the study of the proceedings as a whole, two possible scenarios can be derived: that the Prosecutor’s Office files a complaint or complaint against Bernardo Álvarez for considering that he committed a hate crime or that the matter be filed as there are no circumstances to demand criminal liability.
