With digital and mobile technology as support, this project developed by the company Divulgación Inmersiva merges the real environment with a virtual environment at the service of an enriching cultural experience. Users will be able to view an avatar on their mobiles that will present them in real time with some of the emblematic places of Puerto de la Cruz. The app, which is available for Android and iOS in Spanish, English and German, allows visitors to have a unique relationship with Puerto de la Cruz as the host city through the digital tool. The route incorporates eight experiences in augmented reality related to as many places of interest in the city: the viewpoint of La Paz, Playa Martiánez, the hermitage of San Telmo, the fishing pier, the neighborhood of La Ranilla, the castle of San Felipe, the viewpoint of Dulce María Loynaz and the path of the Sortija.

The project was presented yesterday by the mayor, Marco González; the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez; and José Enrique Cabrera, from the company Immersive Disclosure. “A project is being launched to improve the services we offer to visitors,” said the mayor, who recalled that this is “the first augmented reality experience carried out in the Canary Islands, at least from the public sphere.” “It has been the result of a previous analysis work from the point of view of the increasingly close relationship between culture and technology with which we have propitiated this very useful tool for the visitor trip to Puerto de la Cruz”, Marco González clarified.

David Pérez, CEO of Tenerife Tourism, highlighted the innovative actions developed by Puerto de la Cruz. He recalled that “being able to inspire a new traveler depends on what you can offer, in addition to good weather, and from that point of view, a project like Puerto Increased is an opportunity to get to know the rich heritage of the municipality”, which makes Puerto de la Cruz a “When it comes to developing innovative experiences, which is the way to go.”

New communication channel

José Enrique Cabrera, head of the Immersive Disclosure technology department, thanked the City Council of Puerto de la Cruz and Tourism of Tenerife for this experience and explained that with this augmented reality application “a new channel of communication with the user is created which is interactive, bidirectional and immersive”, which is “an important element when transmitting emotions through digital”.

Puerto Augmented thus joins other initiatives developed in the field of new narratives such as Digitalismos, Pesca Brava, Orilla, Andando Cuentos or Novísimos a Escena and which contribute to social transformation through culture, understood in the broadest sense of the word.
