SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 15 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has denied that he is a “submissive” before Pedro Sánchez –as stated by the opposition– and has wanted to remember that the Canary Islands is the second Autonomous Community, along with Catalonia, that has the most litigation has open against the Government of Spain.
The president, who today has participated in a new SER Meeting, has admitted that there has been “mistreatment” of the Canary Islands by the different State Governments and issues that had to be made an effort to make them understand, even coming to confrontation.
However, Ángel Víctor Torres considers that “only complaining is not profitable for the Canary Islands”. “You also have to reflect because, if you complain and you don’t get anything, you’re left with melancholy,” he said.
In this sense, Torres highlighted that thanks to the greater dialogue with the Government of Sánchez, achievements have been achieved such as the 1,144 million European funds, the additional provision of the ERTE or the last extension of the RIC.
In his opinion, it would be necessary to reflect on whether structural poverty, youth unemployment or the gap between women and men in the Canary Islands “is a consequence or not of the fact that there has been a policy of confrontation rather than of agreements”.
Moreover, the head of the Canarian Executive stressed that in these years it has been possible to overcome the “dramatic” situation derived from the pandemic because Europe “has risen to the occasion” and because there has been a relationship with the Government of Spain, which ” He has also responded.
