The La Orotava Carnival 2022 program has just started with the opening of the registration period for the children’s costume contest, so that popular votes can be held between February 26 and Tuesday March 1. In the Web page www.carnavaldelaorotava.com and the social networks of the Orotavense City Council the acts, contests and general information of the carnival groups of the Villa will be offered.

The face-to-face events will begin on Friday 25, at the Teobaldo Power Auditorium, with the gala Around the world in Carnival, you choose your destination, dedicated especially to designers who will present costumes with the theme of carnivals around the world, and which will be shown later from Sunday 27 to March 6 at the Liceo de Taoro Cultural Society, and you can also vote electronically. The gala will also feature different performances and can be followed live on social networks and television. To attend it is necessary to previously withdraw tickets at www.tickety.es.

Yesterday, the La Orotava City Council presented the program and the poster for Carnival 2022. The mayor, Francisco Linares, assured that it is an “austere but dignified” program. He pointed out that despite the health situation, the objective is “to keep these traditional celebrations alive and support all the groups related to carnivals and that have miraculously survived, since Carnival is to be experienced and shared in the streets.”

Linares expressed his gratitude to all the villero groups and encouraged them to continue with “that involvement and effort”, since they are “the true protagonists, as well as encouraging families and Orotavenses to enjoy the acts that are carried out with the proper health protocol. He also congratulated the young winner of the poster, Javier Díaz Amador.

On Saturday the 26th, the photo exhibition of the Piñata Dance, organized by the cultural group La Escalera and the City Council, will be inaugurated at the Casa de la Cultura in San Agustín. On Tuesday, March 1, a holiday in La Orotava, various events will be held, such as the traditional exhibition of vintage cars, which is celebrating its XLIX edition. On this day, the exhibition of photos of the Piñata Dance is moved to the Plaza de La Constitución and, in the afternoon, the Teobaldo Power auditorium will host a festival presented by the Canarian humorist Kike Pérez and in which the performances of the groups will take place. Of the carnival.

In addition to the programming, the City Council has also presented the poster for the La Orotava Carnival 2022, whose author is the young man from Orotava, Javier Díaz Amador. The design of this characteristic element that heralds the holidays is directly influenced by the motto chosen for this year, such as “Carnival, a world of color and smiles”. “And it is that, the smile, as the main element, is the means of travel through which you can reach a world of color, carnival, illusion and festivity”.

The mayor of Fiestas, Alexis Pacheco, stressed that the program of events, due to the pandemic, will take place in this edition in person and virtually. “It is a somewhat more complete program than last year, but we hope that in 2023 we can return to normal.”
