The City Council receives a subsidy of €1,581,543.08 to replace all public lighting in the municipality with LED technology with remote management

The City Council of Santiago del Teide has received a grant from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge within the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF) for an amount of €1,581,543.08, that is, about 85% of the total subsidy that had been requested for the complete substitution of outdoor public lighting throughout the municipality to LED technology with remote management.

In this sense, action will be taken on the 1,961 existing lights in the municipality, of which 164 will be eliminated and 63 new units will be added to comply with current regulations. 1,597 will be replaced by new LED technology and a GPRS system will be installed in the 200 luminaires that are not replaced.

Regarding the dashboards, out of a total of 26 initial dashboards, a reunification of some of them will be carried out, increasing to 28 in the future situation. 22 of them will be replaced by new ones and a remote management system will be installed. With this action, the power will be reduced from 208 kW to 81.8 kW and an estimated energy saving of 61% will be achieved.

These are subsidies for unique projects of local entities that favor the transition to a low-carbon economy within the framework of the ERDF Operational Program for sustainable growth 2014-2020.

Emilio Navarro indicates that “by combining LED technology with a comprehensive management system, the municipality acquires total control over its outdoor lighting, obtaining significant energy and economic savings given their longer useful life, lower maintenance costs as well as tons of CO2 that are no longer emitted into the atmosphere. It is a clear commitment by Santiago del Teide to digitization and energy efficiency”.
