Canarian Coalition of Tenerife yesterday accused the Canary Islands Government and its president, Angel Victor Torresof “abandoning” the residents of Los Silos and the Low Island in the conflict of the silent pool after learning that The National Directorate of Coasts, dependent on the central government, has denied the concession of municipal swimming pools to the City Council of Los Silos.
Rosa Dávila, secretary of Organization and autonomous deputy of CC, denounces that the Canarian president “has done nothing but look the other way on this problem, demonstrating his lack of leadership since he never responded to the requests made by the local government of Los Silos to intercede with the State Government and avoid the demolition that the General Directorate of Coasts of Madrid presents to execute of the municipal swimming pools ».
Dávila recalled that in July 2021, the Los Silos City Council and the Nationalist Group in Parliament urged the President of the Canarian Government to “to intercede with his bosses in Madrid to avoid this outrage”. “However, what Ángel Vítor Torres has done is to let this matter die, without worrying in the slightest about the well-being of the thousands of residents of Los Silos and Isla Baja who use these pools,” Dávila pointed out. “The lack of leadership of President Torres before his bosses in Madrid is evident, since he has not defended the interests of the inhabitants of Los Silos and Isla Baja against the interests of Costas Madrid”criticized the nationalist representative.
Los Silos City Council has put all its machinery into operation to try to save the municipal swimming pool, which since 1968 has been a key facility for leisure, sports and tourism on the Low Island. After disappointing meetings with those responsible for Costas in Madrid, the local government (CC-PP) fears that the demolition threats will materialize soon and to avoid it, they seek all possible support among the citizens and the rest of the Canary Islands institutions. The nationalist deputy criticized “the delay” that the Canarian Government has had in demanding the transfer of powers in Coastal matters to the State, “something that should have been carried out more than a year and a half ago, but what it has done the Government of Torres is to look the other way».
The Secretary of Organization of CC de Tenerife considers what Costas Madrid is doing in Los Silos to be a “real outrage”, and does not understand how it is possible that the Directorate General of Coasts of Tenerife issued a favorable report so that Los Silos can continue to have these pools throughout a concession of 30 more years and, on the other hand, Costas Madrid denies the concession and promotes its demolition, something that seems “unacceptable”.
