The price of used vehicles rose by 18.42% in the Canary Islands in January

The average price of second-hand cars in the Canary Islands stood at 10,140 euros last January, with an increase in annual terms of 18.42%, while the national average registered a smaller increase, of 13.2%.

Cars over eight years old were paid in the Canarian community at an average of 7,636 euros, with an increase of 21.64%, and the national average price was placed at 9,280 euros with an increase of 18.61%, this report has reported. Monday the National Association of Vehicle Dealers (Ancove) in a statement.

Sales of cars over eight years old represented 72.03% of total sales in the region.

In relation to December 2021, in January sales increased by 0.9% in the used car market as a whole and by 0.16% in the oldest units that exceed eight years.

Las Palmas was the province where the price of second-hand cars increased the most compared to the same month last year, by 19.47% (10,756 euros), since in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the increase was 16.97 % (9,432).

In the national market, in January second-hand cars registered an average price of 12,221 euros, with an increase in annual terms of 13.2%.

In the case of passenger cars over eight years old, the price was 9,280 euros, which implies 18.6% more than the same month last year.

The shortage of new vehicles due to the effect of the semiconductor crisis is pushing prices up. With unknown rates, because in a single month -January compared to December 2021- they rise 2.5% in the whole of the second-hand car market and 2.8% in the oldest units that exceed eight years, whose demand has grown strongly.

Which explains a rise in the weight of these older vehicles over the total sales for January. Thus, last month they reached 65.35% of the total used passenger cars sold in the month. In the same month last year, they accounted for 63.7% and five points less than in mid-2020 (60.4%), in the midst of the pandemic.

Total passenger car market price by Autonomous Community: In January, the price compared to the same month of 2021 increased in all the autonomous communities with Extremadura in the lead, registering a rise of close to 20%, especially due to the low prices of a year ago. Madrid, www.ancove.es on the other hand, despite the fact that it stands at 14,447 euros, 2,000 above the average, moderates its increase to 5.8% due to the high prices in the region.
