The Cabildo de Tenerife has budgeted for this year the drafting of the study that will determine the solution to the problem of landslides on the TF-82 road, passing through kilometer 29, in the area called the vein, in the municipality of Santiago del Teide. This reproduces the same planning as in 2021, when the island governmentat the request of an amendment proposed by the Popular Group, also included in the past budget an item to commission the same study, but it was not executed.

Emilio Navarrothe Mayor of Santiago, announces the commitment of the Island Councilor for Highways, Enrique Arriaga, to promote this file so that in the current year the preparation of the reference study is put out to tender. Until now, the Consistory defends the construction of a tunnel as the definitive solution and the one that would provide greater security. In fact, the tunnel in question would cross the Blacksmith Mountain, as this proposal was evaluated as the only solution to the problem.

La Vetita is part of the sTF-82, road that runs between Adeje and Icod de los Vinos. Specifically, it is located in the section that runs between the towns of Chío (Guía de Isora) and Tamaimo (Santiago del Teide). A point of the island’s road network where landslides are frequent, especially when it rains. With the commissioning of the southern section of the Insular Ring, in 2015, this route reduced its traffic density significantly.

The municipal government claims the construction of a tunnel in Montaña del Herrero as the ideal solution to the problem

The Santiago City Council has been demanding a solution to this problem for six years (since 2016) “given the seriousness of the situation” and the “little interest” that the Island Corporation has shown in it during the last five years.

Santiago del Teide also proposes to Carreteras an action to improve access to the municipality through La Cruz de Santiago, on the coast. “It is about generating access to the towns on the coast, adapting it to the needs of the area, both because of its residential nature and because of the tourist activity that takes place there,” says the mayor.

In a meeting held with the councilor and the insular directors of Highways and Mobility, Navarro also demanded a solution to the problem generated by the absence of public transport service by bus suffered by the residents of Arguayo during the weekends.
