The Bishopric of Tenerife guarantees that it has not registered any property that is not its own

The Bishopric of Tenerife has released this Monday the list of 32 properties registered in the Diocese with the aim of avoiding “completely inadequate interpretations and accusations”, and to guarantee that all of them were properly registered, ecclesiastical sources informed EFE.

The Diocese of Nivariense has released a note in which it underlines that the Church does not want to dispose of assets that do not correspond to it and assures that those that it disposes of “are always at the service of society, since their purpose is always to celebrate and announce the faith”, as well as promoting and supporting charitable-social works.

The Bishopric of Tenerife also guarantees that it has not registered any property in the Property Registry of which it is not certain that it is its legitimate owner.

It also considers that there was “an unfortunate error” in the publication of the report that the Episcopal Conference of Spain issued on this matter last January in relation to the 32 real estate properties registered in the Diocese, “and of which we were not certain of their belonging to the Church”, because then the exact location of the buildings was not yet known, the sources indicated.

“That documentation did not reach the Episcopal Conference on time” but now that all the data has been collected, it has been decided to disclose the list of the 32 real estate properties that, according to the sources of the Bishopric, have been registered, some via deed and others via law Mortgage.

The statement also indicates that the Bishopric deems it appropriate to publish “the specific identity of each of these assets in order to avoid completely inappropriate interpretations and accusations.”

It also reiterates that it will remain available to provide information and collaborate with any natural or legal person “who feels more entitled to any of the assets that we have registered.”

The list of 32 assets made public today by the Bishopric of Tenerife includes the Cathedral of La Laguna, two parish houses (one of them with an orchard), five hermitages, three parish complexes, a garage, five parish churches, four chapels, two churches, a tabor house, a niche and a penitentiary pastoral house.

Also appearing on the list is an apartment already sold, two apartments with a parking space and storage room, a duplex parish apartment with storage room and garage, a plot of land with a house in ruins and a Calvary.
