The municipal cemetery of Adeje is undergoing a new set-up with the addition of a new pergola, the equipping of the four wake rooms and the commissioning of the crematorium, as well as beautifying the green areas with seasonal flowers, building new niches and columbaria. All actions are possible with the investment of 400,000 euros.
«The municipal cemetery of Adeje is a space that has a unique sensitivity. Therefore, it is necessary that it is always available to our neighbors in optimal conditions, “said Councilor Esther Rivero.
The pergola is installed in the backyard of the holy field, where two of the four wake rooms are located. It will provide shade to the area and protect from inclement weather during any time of the year. The works began in January and it supposes a structure of around 14 meters, adjusted to the current building of the cemetery. With its incorporation, visitors will have a conditioned area outside the wake rooms.
Another of the substantial improvements is the furniture in the wake rooms. To date, two have new furniture and soon all will have equipment for rest and support. “The municipal cemetery is used in very hard times for families and, therefore, any contribution that helps make the stay a little more bearable is important,” says the mayor.
The crematory oven has been in service since November, already registering 30 services, half to residents of Adeje and the other half to cases from other municipalities. Among the actions to improve and expand the cemetery, the creation of 280 new niches and 156 columbariums also stands out.
Rivero says that from the City Council “we intend that relatives can fulfill the last wishes of their loved ones from dignity, tranquility and security.”
