SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 14 (EUROPE PRESS) –
Agents of the National Police have arrested a 54-year-old man in Tenerife as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of fraud and misappropriation, since he allegedly contracted policies for an insurance company, appropriated the money and left clients without insurance. The total economic damage caused is estimated at 8,000 euros.
The investigation was initiated as a result of a complaint from an insurance company that disclosed a possible fraud in the contracting of insurance. The investigators discovered that the events dated back to the period of home confinement of the population due to the health emergency of COVID-19.
With the excuse of avoiding unnecessary trips to clients, the detainee offered them the possibility of paying for the supposedly contracted insurance policy through a direct mobile payment platform.
The insurance agent then appropriated the money, did not actually process the policies, and did not inform the insurance company of their existence. As a consequence, those who had contracted the policy mistakenly believed that they had the insurance in force, which was invalid in the event of any eventuality.
The investigators proceeded to arrest this subject in the capital of Tenerife, placing him at the disposal of the competent judicial authority after being heard in a statement. The actions were carried out by national police officers from the Investigation Group of the South District Police Station of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
