A party area in Tenerife once again becomes an improvised boxing ring

The Quadrilateral area, in La Laguna, vIt forgot to become the night of this Saturday, February 12, in an improvised boxing ring. Several videos broadcast throughout this Sunday day and that have spread like wildfire through the mobile devices of many people from Tenerife show how several groups of young people start it with blows before the watchful eyes of the dozens of people who had gathered in the place .

Kicks and punches delivered without rhyme or reason, a picture that was repeated during some nights a few months ago and that seemed to be controlled. However, nothing is further from reality. Although the trigger for the events is unknown, the police went to the scene shortly after, but as official sources have confirmed to this newspaper, no arrests were made.

It should be remembered that at the end of last year the same space was the subject of several fights between several young groups with the vain attempt of some of them to mediate and throwing bottles in the middle of the street. All this brought with it the indignation of the neighbors due to the lack of security and the aggressive and uncivil behavior of some of the young people.

For all this, last October an operation was launched that sought to eradicate the practice of large bottles in the area. The first anti-botellón police operation in the area of La Laguna premises, which began on October 22, 2021, ended with “success”, as the Councilor for Citizen Security, Alejandro Marrero, assured at the time. The mayor explained that there were hardly several interventions per bottle.

A few days before the start of this operation, a citizen initiative launched through the Change.org platform. Then a few hundred neighbors signed to end the practice of the ‘botellón’ due to the “inaction” of the agents of the Local Police due to lack of troops and the “permissiveness” of the City Council.

In the initiative, under the slogan ‘STOP BOTELLÓN’, it was collected that from Thursday to Sunday they concentrate multitude of people in the area, with a high percentage of minors, consuming alcohol and drugs, which often ends in massive fights, sexual assaults, vandalism and dirt. They even point out that there are “continuous threats” to neighbors who cannot access their homes.

After the new fight that took place in the place, this Monday, February 14, the National Police will transfer the incidents in order to re-activate the security device, which had ceased to be developed at this point in La Laguna.
