CC de Tenerife bets on the South train in a “clear and resounding” way

Canarian Coalition (CC) from Tenerife bets “in a clear and resounding way” on the Implementation of the South Train as a formula to improve mobility on the Island within the sustainable and efficient transport model, a solution based on renewable energies for which Tenerife nationalists are in favor.

For the general secretary of the Tenerife nationalists, Francis Linaresguided transport “is reliable, safe and sustainable and it is necessary to take into account the mobility needs in the southern corridor of the Island, where the project includes a Train-Tram from San Isidro to Los Cristianos”.

Linares recalls that the tram and trains “are bets” by CC, “and everyone knows that. Many of those who opposed the tram today applaud it and guided transport has been shown to be a good solution to improve mobility.” In his opinion, “Tenerife cannot give up guided transport projects, because it is one of the solutions to improve mobility on the Island, along with other actions such as the BUS-VAO lanes.”

He criticized that the «lack of leadership» of Pedro Martín and the different positions of the PSOE with this and other projects «They make Tenerife stay behind. In the last two years we have lost competitiveness, and one more example is that in Gran Canaria all the parties support the train, while in Tenerife, they do not.

Linares maintains that «Pedro Martín puts his interests before those of Tenerife, because Sí Podemos Canarias threatened him with breaking the pact in the Cabildo if he supported the train. He is thinking of him and not of the island’s citizens, and we cannot lag behind in this matter.”

He regretted the difference in criteria in the PSOE. As examples, he cites the demonstrations in favor of the southern train carried out by the Canarian president, Angel Victor Torres, «while the insular president says that it is not a priority and that it costs a lot. The ups and downs of the PSOE in the Government and in the Cabildo make Tenerife stay behind ». For Linares, “the only reason” why Martín and the PSOE do not support the train “is because their position is at risk.”

From CC it is warned that «there is a historic opportunity to receive money from Spain and Europe to develop the train and take advantage of the previous work of CC from the Cabildo. In Gran Canaria they have understood it that way and all the parties support it, but here, no.”
