SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 10 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Innovation area of the Cabildo de Tenerife will have a budget of 16,044,849 euros for 2022, which will be complemented by the incorporation of remnants.

This was stated this Thursday at a press conference by the Minister of Innovation, Enrique Arriaga, who pointed out that it is “an extremely important area with which it is a question of promoting innovation, research and development, since it represents an important alternative business niche to the services sector”.

To do this, he commented, “the island has all the necessary elements to guarantee success in this regard.”

In this exercise, four important lines of action will be carried out that will concentrate 42% of the accounts and that are the development of the Master Plan, the Self-service Network, the Insular Telecommunications Ring and support for R&D&i.

Enrique Arriaga explained that “the Master Plan for Innovation (PDI) will be the backbone for creating a favorable ecosystem on the island for the establishment and creation of innovative companies that will work on three fundamental lines: the audiovisual and video game sectors, renewable energies and latest technology.

Arriaga also highlighted that “training and the creation of talent is key so that companies that establish themselves or create on the island have qualified personnel and do not have to look for them abroad.”

For this reason, he pointed out, “different programs are promoted in reference centers as well as in the Science and Technology Park”.

Regarding the technological and innovation projects being carried out by the area, the Minister valued the Intelligent Emergency Management System (SIGE) in which 2,043,251 euros will be invested and which will provide the island with a fundamental tool to work against critical situations such as fires, floods or volcanic eruptions and decide issues such as an evacuation, how the event will evolve or, for example, its scope.

The island director of Innovation, Aránzazu Artal, highlighted that the support for R&D&i is carried out mainly through collaboration with three large entities such as the University of La Laguna, through its university institutes where research is carried out of the first level, scholarships such as that of Agustín de Betancourt and the General Research Support Service (SEGAI).

The Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands (IAC) is also supported through training programs and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) through the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology.
