The former presidents of the Cabildo, Ricardo Melchior and Carlos Alonso, and the regional councilor of Justice, Julio Pérez, among those investigated

The Investigating Court Number Five of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has accepted the inhibition of the Investigating Court number 3 of La Laguna in the knowledge of the complaint of the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged illegal purchase of land owned by the Tenerife Sports Club in the lagoon neighborhood of Geneto and has agreed to open preliminary proceedings.
In an order dated February 9, the judicial authority agrees to summon the ex-presidents of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Ricardo Melchior and Carlos Alonso, to declare them under investigation; the former councilor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Antonio García Marichal; the former director of the Canarian Housing Institute and former councilor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, María del Pino León Hernández; the current regional director of Road Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Luis Delgado Sánchez; the former director of the Starlight Foundation (dependent on the Astrophysicist of the Canary Islands) Luis Antonio Martínez; the former director of the Canarian Employment Service and councilor in La Laguna, Sergio Fernando Alonso; the current Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands and former Deputy Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Julio Pérez; the former insular director of Innovation of the Cabildo de Tenerife Juan Antonio Núnez, and the lawyer of the public company Parque Ciencia y Tecnológico, José Luis Luengo.
The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) informs that the judicial authority appreciates indications that in 2012 those investigated, in their capacity as members of the Board of Directors of the Science and Technology Park, could have participated in two crimes of prevarication article 404 of the Penal Code and a crime of embezzlement of public funds of article 432.2 of the same text in the framework of the purchase of the land of the Ciudad Deportiva del CD Tenerife in Geneto, “so it is appropriate to direct the procedure against the same and carry out as many diligences as may be necessary to determine and specify such data”.
According to the investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office, the public company that acquired the land for almost 20 million euros, a price that exceeded its cadastral value by 524%.
The judicial resolution is subject to appeal for amendment and subsidiary appeal.
