World Radio Day, which is celebrated on Sunday, February 13, is the date chosen for the young people of La Orotava to turn on their own radio station, “a channel so that boys and girls have a voice and can express themselves with the topics they they are concerned and interested”, declared yesterday the Councilor for Youth, Darío Afonso. ‘The young voice’ has its space in the Casa de la Juventud and the programs are planned to be broadcast online and through social networks, counting for this initiative with the support of Radio Kiosco, from the IES Manuel González Pérez.
The mayor confirmed its launch accompanied by the mayor, Francisco Linares, during the presentation of this year’s program of activities. In this context, he underlined the high participation of the group in the different initiatives organized in the Youth House, which has been in operation for a decade now, and which at certain times of the year is also used as a study room and as a point for advice and training.
In 2021, this resource registered close to 3,500 users who took advantage of the wide range of activities, from the most consolidated such as the Hiperbreve Story contest, Crearte or Arte Joven en la Calle to the bookface contest and the Photographic Marathon, which in this edition will be about sustainable development, or La Orotava Callejea, an event that fuses culture and sport and that is intended to recover this 2022.
Francisco Linares highlighted “the dynamism and involvement” of the youth of the municipality and the fact that despite having all the resources at their fingertips today, “they continue to take advantage of and use the Casa de la Juventud and all the offer that is He does it exclusively for them.”
In this sense, he announced that an information campaign will be carried out by the House of Youth and suggestion boxes will be placed in different points such as the Municipal Library and the House of Culture so that young people can participate and give their opinion. At the same time, the network of youth correspondents will be expanded, people who in the different neighborhoods listen and transfer to the City Council the different proposals of the sector and the participation of the group in municipal budgets will be encouraged.
