SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 8 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Minister of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands, Noemí Santana (Yes We Can), warned this Tuesday that the islands are experiencing a “humanitarian crisis” derived from the continuous arrival of unaccompanied migrant minors, adding up to a total of 2,819 under guardianship of the autonomous community.
In response to questions from his group and from ASG in the control session, he insisted on demanding a “responsible distribution” of minors among the autonomous communities since “it is no longer a matter of solidarity but of co-responsibility”.
He has said that he has requested for the third time a meeting with the Minister of Migration, José Luis Escrivá, and that the Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, is going to include in the next interterritorial commission the protocol for the distribution of minors, which has been delayed by the “problems” posed by some communities.
Santana has also indicated that they have requested another meeting with the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, so that technicians from childhood units can go to the dock to certify if the migrants who have arrived are minors, since there are more than 1,300 who doubt his age and a case of a 46-year-old man who lives in a sheltered center has been detected.
In this sense, he has valued the commitment of the Government delegate, Anselmo Pestana, to dedicate more personnel to bone tests to determine the age of migrants.
The counselor has insisted that the Canary Islands are Spain’s “southern border” and for this reason she understands that both the central government, together with the autonomies, and the European Union (EU), must be jointly responsible for the management.
He has indicated that they do not care if they are “criticized” for claiming this matter from formations of the same political color in the central government but has made it clear “regardless of who cares, the Canary Islands are ahead.”
María del Río (Yes We Can) has indicated that unaccompanied migrant minors “have been treated impeccably” but has warned that the Canary Islands have reached a “limit moment” and cannot “continue to accept more”.
CO-RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES
“It is necessary for everyone to take co-responsibility and assume being part of the solution, it is a priority to update the management model and a state mechanism that moves from voluntary solidarity to a responsible commitment”, he stressed.
He has insisted that there is a “social and humanitarian emergency” on the islands that “transcends the colors of political parties and administrations” for which he asks for “help” from the EU, the central government and the autonomous communities.
Casimiro Curbelo, spokesman for ASG, has said that migration is a “state issue” and political parties must have a “calm and cooperative debate” because the Canary Islands have been left alone in caring for migrant minors.
“We are human and we always attend to minors, whether there are difficulties or not, but it is necessary that we all be as one because it is not reasonable for some communities to look the other way, the law must be modified, if not, chaos will reign in the future because there is no capacity to attend, we are going to overflow”, he indicated, stressing that “this issue cannot wait another minute”.
Poland protect its borders against illegal immigration. And is not allowing them to enter the country. Spain should do the same.
