SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 8 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The fifth edition of ‘MAPAS, Mercado de las Artes Performativas del Atlántico Sur’ opens this Tuesday the period for both artists, companies and agencies from Latin America, Africa and southern Europe as well as those responsible for programming from around the world to register to participate in the 2022 edition that will be held from July 4 to 9 in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

In addition, simultaneously, the market opens registration for programmers from the five continents to attend ‘MAPAS 2022’.

Professionals interested in attending the fifth edition of the market may register until June 7.

In its fifth edition, ‘MAPAS’ has established itself as a regional event and joins the strategies that the different administrations have implemented in the field of performing arts to reactivate the sector.

In addition, it is committed to the decentralization of market activities that allow it, with the aim of insular balance in the presentation of artistic proposals.

The market maintains the specialization of the meetings, to create differentiated spaces for musical and scenic disciplines, informs the Government of the Canary Islands in a note.

Gran Canaria will become the epicenter of tricontinental music with nine daily concerts and the celebration of the business conference of the music industry on July 6, while the scenic talent of the South Atlantic will meet in Tenerife, where the business conference will be will be held on July 8.

In this way, the distribution of the year 2021 is reversed, to offer the Canarian public a selected variety in the artistic samples of the market.

With the aim of promoting business culture for live arts in the Canary Islands, ‘MAPAS’ makes available to both artists and programmers a market space and a meeting place for businesses.

Added to this is the creation of effective management tools so that they can be developed, consolidated and generate synergies in the sector.

The organization of ‘MAPAS’, made up of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, unahoramenos and Circulart, with the collaboration of institutions and organisations, focuses its efforts on consolidating MAPAS as a forum of international reference.

Based on the strategic lines and policies of the different public institutions that organize the market and through its different spaces for dissemination and exchange, ‘MAPAS’ offers an opportunity to promote the circulation of the performing arts of the South Atlantic and the need to create strategic alliances between artists, distributors and programmers from all over the world.

The entire registration and scheduling process is managed through the virtual platform www.mapasmercadocultural.com.

CREATORS AND AGENCIES

The call for creators and management, booking and distribution agencies for live performing arts –music, theatre, dance, street arts and circus– will remain open until March 24, 2022 and the results of the selection process , which will be in charge of an advisory committee made up of experts with recognized international experience in the field of culture, will be made public on May 9.

The set of selected proposals, with a quota of 25% of Canarian groups, will have the opportunity to participate both in the business conference and in the artistic exhibitions.

The participation of artists and companies is open to individuals, companies, groups and professional groups that carry out their activity in the disciplines in the geographic scope of Latin America, Africa and southern Europe (Spain and Portugal) or foreign residents in any of these countries. .

Among other requirements, artists must prove at least one year of experience, five live performances and a record production for music and five representations for performing arts, while agencies will have to demonstrate at least three years of experience in their activity and they will have to register at least two artistic groups or shows.

PROGRAMMERS AND CULTURAL MANAGERS

Those responsible for programming, artistic directors, curators, festival curators, cultural managers from public or private institutions and entrepreneurs from the performing arts industries are invited to register and take part in the business meetings that will take place on on July 6 and 8 in Gran Canaria and Tenerife and which will bring together the music and stage industries, respectively.

Likewise, they will be able to learn about the innovative artistic proposals from three continents that will be exhibited during those days on the islands, and thus favor the strengthening of the live arts industry in a space for collaboration and exchange.

Registration is free and will remain open until June 7.

The latest edition of ‘MAPAS’ received 88 programmers from 21 nationalities, who had the opportunity to hold 1,319 meetings with 102 artistic groups from 21 countries: 46 soloists and musical groups, 56 performing arts artists and companies, as well as 19 booking, management and distribution agencies in Africa, Latin America and southern Europe.

These meetings are completed with samples of music and performing arts open to the public that allow managers and managers to see live a careful selection of the proposals presented by the artistic groups and that had nearly 6,500 attendees in the rooms to Despite the health situation, observing the protocols of the authorities at all times.
