The final work on the Igueste water tank resumes on Monday

They resume on Monday the drinking water channeling works in La Morrita and Reverendo Padre Simón Higuera streets, works that will last for the next four months and that have an estimated investment of 859,908 euros. The company Satocan SA is in charge of executing this project, which will complete the action planned for the Igueste water reservoir. The work was stopped in 2019, due to non-compliance by the successful bidder, which led to “a complex contract termination procedure” before proceeding to call the new tender, which had already been resolved.

With these actions, the municipal government of Candelaria explains that It is intended to solve the incidents that are currently registered with the public drinking water supply service. From the existing deposit, the nucleus of Igueste Alto is supplied by means of a galvanized iron pipe that runs along La Morrita and Reverendo Padre Simón Higuera streets. It is in poor condition, registering punctual breakages, with the aggravating circumstance that the flow that it can transport is insufficient for the demand of the population of the area, especially in the summer period. The deposit itself does not allow the storage of the water required by the current consumption of the nucleus nor does it enable compliance with the regulations that regulate the storage capacity per inhabitant.

Driving and parking prohibited

To carry out the work, it is necessary prohibit vehicle parking on La Morrita and Reverendo Padre Simón Higuera streets. In addition, these roads will also be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday for the duration of the work. La Morrita will be the first of the streets in which the work will materialize, and later, to do the same on the Reverendo Padre Simón Higuera road. Nevertheless, in case of emergency and for justified reasons, vehicles will be allowed to pass that require it, explains the government chaired by Mari Brito.

The City Council of Candelaria exposes and regrets “the inconveniences and inconveniences that may occur during the execution of the work, since there is no other alternative of circulation, and recalls the importance of this work for the development and sustainability of the town of Igueste” .

Information to neighbors

In order to provide as much information as possible about these works, the municipal authorities call the residents of the area who require it to send their queries to the Department of Planning and Urban Management. In addition, the City Council will proceed to place posters in the area and promptly inform the public. Along these lines, a meeting was held yesterday, at 6:00 p.m., in the Cultural Space of Igueste Porfirio Torres Cruz, in order to transfer the data to the affected population to clarify doubts about the start and development of the works.

The City Council of Candelaria awarded the construction of the drinking water tank and supply network in Igueste on July 31, 2018, for an amount greater than 1.2 million euros, thus culminating a bidding process in which 12 companies applied. It is a project co-financed between the City Council of Candelaria and the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Cooperation Plan, so initially it was required that the work be completed before April 30, 2019, which was not fulfilled.

The works that will resume on Monday were tendered for 883,716 euros and eight months of space for their completion. It is a work long in demand by the population of the upper area of the town of Igueste.
