It is nothing new that in Candelaria the locations of those buildings for which their neighbors have been waiting for a long time change, as has happened with the projects of the indoor pool, the auditorium, the security center or a new health center. In the latter case, according to the mayor, Mari Brito, the new location would be located in what are known as Huertas de Don Pablo, very close to the roundabout at the entrance to the town center and next to the TF-1, a plot of land for that initially a regional security center (firefighters, local police and civil protection) had been planned.
This change of location of the new health center, so necessary for a municipality that has tripled its population in this century (from 11,000 to 29,000 inhabitants), is pending the modification of the 2006 General Planning Plan, which is already under study. The change would entail that the current two-storey building located just behind the Town Hall would be ceded by the Ministry of Health to expand the current premises of the Consistory there, which has also become too small. The covered swimming pool, although an attempt was made to change its location, would be built on the land already planned that is in the area of the CEIP Punta Larga and Correos, at the beginning of the Los Menceyes boulevard, while at the end of this avenue the auditorium, two projects that Mari Brito hopes can be presented before the end of this mandate.
The mayor of Candelaria announced that, thanks to a grant of 400,000 euros from European funds processed by the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry, the current space where the Marcadillo del Agricultor is located will be regenerated, once they obtain the final resolution of that aid . It is intended that this space, apart from the Market and public bathrooms, also become a leisure and culture area, waiting for the great project in which Mari Brito is involved: building in the old warehouses of Don Sixto Machado, acquired by about two million euros, a great gastronomic center and Canarian identity. Added to this is a parking area, which provisionally already functions as such at the rear of those old warehouses, just at the entrance to the Villa Mariana, due to the collapse that has occurred in the hull with Costas’ refusal to grant himself the concession so that the car park in front of the Town Hall would continue to be on a rotating basis.
This great project is also awaiting the modification of the PGO and the mayor expects its drafting throughout this year and to have the Next Generation funds for its financing in 2023.
Budget
Councilor Mari Brito declared that the final calculation of chapter one is awaiting, with the increases derived from the negotiation of the RPT (Relationship of Jobs) to bring the 2022 Budget to the Municipal Plenary.
Some accounts expected to be around 23 million euros, as already announced by the mayor of the Treasury, Airam Pérez Chinea in this same newspaper. “The draft of the Budget has been distributed by departments since November, but those RPT adjustments are missing,” he recalled. Likewise, he added that investments will continue to be made thanks to the positive cash balance, because “otherwise we would have to borrow.”
