SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 4 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The general director of Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands, Nona Perera, has signed today, Friday, the document with which the Silbo Gomero is inaugurated as an Asset of Intangible Cultural Interest in the category of oral traditions and expressions with a Canarian scope.
As required by the procedure for its declaration and after collecting the necessary reports from experts, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage initiates the formalities to extend its cataloging as BIC to the entire archipelago, as has been requested by the community. of bearers of Silbo Gomero, through the Cabildo of the island.
This intangible asset already has the World Heritage seal declared by UNESCO for its exceptional value as an example of human creative genius, endowed with great technical and aesthetic complexity as it is a communication system to facilitate survival, as well as its condition of expression of the popular culture of a territory.
Nona Perera clarifies that it is a peculiar file: “Before starting it, we collected various reports from specialized people and institutions. Now, it is necessary to attend to the regulated procedure that indicates collecting other reports from advisory bodies, to submit them to the Technical Commission and later to the Council of Historical Heritage of the Canary Islands, whose report is binding for its declaration in the Governing Council”.
