The Cabildo de Tenerife has reported this Friday that the president of the island corporation, Pedro Martín, has agreed with the organizers to postpone and suspend some events that were scheduled to be held in May and June at the Tenerife fairgrounds, to host instead carnival events.
The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, postponed until June due to the coronavirus
One of the events affected is the Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands – Gastrocanarias, while events and fairs such as the Tenerife Bluetrail Expodeporte, Renueva Hogar 2022 and the Audiovisual Technology Congress, among others, scheduled for May and June, have been suspended.
In a statement, the president of the Island Corporation, Pedro Martín, has indicated that “it has not been easy, given that we have reservations of dates and commitments with event promoters, entities and companies.”
The organizers of the VII Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands, Gastrocanarias 2022, which was scheduled to be held in May, have been asked to change their dates, as well as the participating companies and professionals. And he recalled that Gastrocanarias brings together 217 exhibitors, 73 companies and more than 17,000 visitors in each edition.
The meeting was attended by the island councilor for Socioeconomic Development, Carmen Luz Baso, and the manager of the Tenerife Trade Fair Institution, Iñaki Domínguez, as well as the general director of Interideas, José Carlos Marrero.
The president has insisted that “although all these changes represent a great upheaval for the fairgrounds, we understand that this is an exceptional situation and, therefore, the Cabildo will continue to seek solutions to make available for the celebration of the Chicharrero Carnival”.
