SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 1 (EUROPE PRESS) –
Teide Cable Car has won the Sustainable Tourism Practices contest organized by Turismo de Tenerife in the category of ‘Best Sustainable Tourism Innovation Practice’.
This award recognizes the Volcano Teide Experience and Camino Barranco de Masca booking engine for their contribution to regulating the carrying capacity of natural spaces, improving the user experience and increasing the safety of visitors to the Masca Ravine Road.
The Volcano Teide Experience and Camino Barranco de Masca booking engine is a booking system for direct online users and also for tour operators and excursion wholesalers with whom the mandatory use of it has been negotiated.
This system was implemented in 2016 to begin to be applied in the management of cable car reservations and has been perfected to the point of being able to be adapted to other natural spaces, such as the Camino Barranco de Masca.
The tool, developed by the Teide Cable Car technicians, consists of an online sales medium as the only channel for the final public and intermediaries through a restricted system of sessions and quotas that, in addition, makes the reservation subject to the explicit acceptance of the security measures required to travel, where appropriate, the path of the Masca ravine.
From the company they point out in a note that Tenerife is one of the islands that has experienced the greatest growth in tourism in recent years and both Teide and Masca are some of the most visited places, which has caused the overcrowding of some spaces of the island.
At specific times of the year, customers of the Teide Cable Car suffered long queues that could mean several hours of waiting, which has also worsened in recent years due to the dizzying growth of tourism on the island.
In addition to the queues, there was an agglomeration of vehicles in the car park, a fact that meant a significant deterioration in the satisfaction indicators and, therefore, a bad image for the park.
For this reason, Teide Cable Car devised a digital tool that allows the influx to its facilities to be modulated and, thus, contribute to regulating the load capacity of the National Park, avoiding queues and waiting times and increasing user satisfaction in their visit to the busiest tourist attraction in Tenerife.
RESERVATION CENTER
After several years of existence and application of improvements, the system has been applied in 2021 to the management of the reservation center of the Camino de Barranco de Masca, thanks to the agreement reached with the Ministry of the Environment of the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Tragsa company.
The Camino del Barranco de Masca was another natural space on the island that, together with Mount Teide, suffered the effects of overcrowding to a greater extent.
In this way, the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife, recognizes the Teide Cable Car initiative as it is a practice related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Island’s Tourism Strategy and aligned with the Charter for the Sustainability of activities in Nature.
Likewise, it has considered the reservation engine developed by the Teide Cable Car for its creativity and innovative nature and because it is an already implemented system that has demonstrated its effectiveness in regulating the influx of natural spaces on the island and improving the quality of the experience of visitors.
