The vandals did their thing last morning by painting the popular statue of the mencey bentor located in Icod el Alto, in The Realejos.
The first deputy mayor, Adolfo González, condemned what happened, pointing out that, from the first hour, the Local Police had been notified: “They appeared at the scene, as well as members of the municipal cleaning services. Luckily, the paint was still fresh, so it was easier to clean the statue.”
Made by Carmen Luis León, in 1996, the statue is made of bronze and is located in the El Lance viewpoint. Bentor, son of Bencomo, led the battle known as the second great Guanche defeat in the Victoria de Acentejo. After the disaster, he took refuge with his Guanches on the top of the Tigaiga hillside, where he decided to end his life by falling off the cliff at the beginning of 1496.
