Residents of Victoriano Darias Montesinos street, in the upper part of Residencial Anaga, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, have contacted DIARIO DE AVISOS to report that an individual, with whom they have not been able to contact, is erecting a building, about eight meters high, with a building license, but without the appropriate documentation to occupy public roads 24 hours a day. Something that has been happening since the middle of last December, and every day of the week. The neighbors say that “from Monday to Friday and weekends, from very early.”
A situation, comment those affected, that is “unsustainable” and that makes them “tired”, because there are owners of adjoining plots who cannot access them, since there is urban furniture, such as lampposts, which have been damaged, and because the The area is full of large stones that do not allow the passage of private cars, freight vehicles, cleaning and gardening services, and even ambulances, and that break off and fall easily, causing a serious danger to the safety of the residents who pass through there.
“The other day a stone about eight centimeters fell on my side. If he caught me, I don’t know what would have happened,” says one of the complainants.
The neighbors, tired of the situation, have written, signed and sent a document to the Urban Planning Department requesting that the street be reopened during the hours in which the work does not have a license to close it. They have also called the Citizen Security area and the Local Police, who have confirmed that the work lacks permission to occupy the street all day. In addition, they comment that several technicians from the City Council were in the area on Thursday and confirmed the same thing, that the license they have does not allow them to keep the street closed without time limitations. However, despite having the verbal support of all these entities, they denounce that “nobody does anything”, that “the City Council does not answer” and that they do not know who to turn to. They fear that measures will be taken “when something serious happens.” It will be at that moment, they say, “when they throw their hands up and listen to us”.
“We estimate that the work could last for years because a building is being built from scratch. We all do works and understand the drawbacks, but this has no explanation. Not only is the street closed 24 hours, but there are noises, vibrations, stones fall and there is a lot of dirt because they barely pour water”, say those affected, who also assure that the project, which is “totally different” from those around it, “ It has invaded the adjoining plot more than three meters”.
They point out, with documents that prove it, and with the support of a lawyer, that the architect of the work was inspired by the parcel of the cadastre, which does not coincide with that of the registry. They ask the City Council to intercede to solve this matter “as soon as possible”, because it is generating “serious inconveniences” in coexistence.
