The vice president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and deputy for Ciudadanos, Enrique Arriaga, from Ciudadanos (Cs), withdrew yesterday, due to lack of consensus, a motion in which he proposed to include the southern train project in the sustainable mobility plan.
The Yes We Can group had warned on the eve of yesterday’s plenary session of a “possible break”a” of his government agreement with the PSOE if the latter supported said motion, since with it “a red line” would be crossed for the purple formation, something that his spokesman insisted onMaria Jose Belda, during the discussion.
The Socialist group, through its deputy Javier Rodríguez, has referred to previous statements by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the socialist Pedro Martín, in which “he has been clear” about it: in the current socioeconomic context, the southern train “is not a priority” for the island due to its “repercussions » for state and European coffers. From the opposition, Manuel Fernández (PP) sarcastically congratulated Sí Podemos for asserting his position. Both Fernández and Félix Fariña (CC-PNC) highlighted that this debate has aroused unanimity in the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, which has also been highlighted by the promoter of the initiative, Enrique Arriaga, who has said he feels “very sorry” for having to withdraw his motion and has proposed to seek consensus on the future of mobility on the island. PP and CC support the southern train and criticize that the island government is “kidnapped by a minority party.”
